Looking ahead: Conference season has arrived

  • Posted on 8 September, 2017

As the summer draws to a close, the life science sector once again gears up for conference season. Here we take a look at some events we are particularly excited about:

SynBioBeta SF 2017

3-5 October 2017, San Francisco

Now in its 6th year, SynBioBeta will return to the Mission Bay Conference Centre in San Francisco on October 3rd and 4th, with a networking event taking place on October 5th. More than 14 sessions, 60 speakers and 25 exhibitors are scheduled.

Synthetic biology is a movement to make biology easier to engineer, a passionate cabal of scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, and investors on a mission to turn biology into a tech discipline. The market is predicted to be worth US$13.4 Billion by 2019. This is a chance to meet the pioneers who are applying engineered biology to revolutionise the production of chemicals, consumer products, energy, materials, medicine and more. Learn how their efforts are transforming manufacturing with a positive effect on conservation and the environment.

Key themes at the event this year include: biomaterials, biosecurity and policy, conservation and the environment, consumer products, education and public outreach. Learn about emerging applications for DNA, health and drug discovery, reproducibility, investment opportunities, and more.

3rd International IET/SynbiCITE Engineering Biology Conference 2017

12-13 December 2017, London

The IET and the UK’s National Industrial Translation Centre for Synthetic Biology, SynbiCITE have teamed up again to bring you an inspirational conference in the revolutionary field of engineering biology.

Synthetic biology is a young and interdisciplinary field of research in the life sciences. It is already revolutionising a number of fields using tools and concepts from physics, engineering and computer science to build new biological systems.

The 3rd International IET /SynbiCITE Conference on Engineering Biology 2017 will provide a focal point for the international synthetic biology community to congregate and share cutting edge research in engineering biology and how these findings are being commercialised and adopted by industry.

'4-Day MBA: More Business Acumen' Courses

As part of SynbiCITE’s drive to commercialise synthetic biology through taking R&D excellence in the lab to the development of tools, products, processes and services for high-value manufacturing industries, we offer ‘4-day MBA: More Business Acumen’ courses to help develop the natural entrepreneurship that is so keenly demonstrated across our wide range of partners.

These interactive courses cover the main strategies required to establish, build and manage a biotech company built around synthetic biology. Particular focus is given to the early stages of setting up a company, getting funding and understanding the wider reaches of IP. This is presented along with case studies from experts in these areas.

Two ‘4-day MBA: More Business Acumen’ courses are scheduled to take place during the second half of 2017:

  • ‘Building a Synthetic Biology-rich Biotech Business from Scratch’, 19-23 November, Manchester
  • ‘4-day MBA: More Business Acumen’ course run by SynbiCITE, 10-14 December, London
